Weekly Word from Dr. Andrews

Weekly Word from Dr. Andrews

April 2, 2018

Several years ago there was a song sung by the Christian recording group Newsong. The words are powerful and speak to the power of our God’s redemption plan for mankind fulfilled in the resurrection of His Son Jesus Christ.

Not a word was heard at the tomb that day, Just the shuffling of soldiers’ feet as they guarded the grave.
One day, two days, three days had passed, Could it be that Jesus had breathed His last?
Could it be that His Father had forsaken Him, Turned His back on His Son, despising our sin?
All Hell seemed to whisper, “Just forget it, He’s dead” Then the Father looked down to His Son and said,
“Arise, My Love” “Arise, My Love” The grave no longer has a hold on You
No more death’s sting, No more suffering, Arise, arise, My Love.

The earth trembled, and the tomb began to shake, And like lightning from Heaven, the stone was rolled away.
And as dead men, the guards, they all stood there in fright, As the power of love displayed its might.
Then suddenly a melody filled the air, Riding wings of wind, it was everywhere.
The words all creation had been longing to hear, The sweet sound of victory, so loud and clear.
“Arise, My Love” “Arise, My Love” The grave no longer has a hold on You.
No more death’s sting, No more suffering Arise, arise.

Sin, where are your shackles? Death, where is your sting?
Hell has been defeated The grave could not hold the King.
“Arise, My Love” “Arise, My Love,” The grave no longer has a hold on You.
No more death’s sting No more suffering Arise, arise, arise.

Jesus followers felt defeated as they watched Jesus die on the cross, and then saw him buried in the tomb. But then they experienced unspeakable joy when they realized he had defeated the grave and was alive, which caused them to proclaim the message that Jesus was alive to everyone they encountered for the rest of their lives. It should be no different for us today. When someone realizes the truth of the resurrection, they will worship Him, just as those disciples long ago did, with a passion to tell the world that Jesus is alive, and they can realize the amazing benefits we receive because of Jesus victory over death and the grave.

The Bible speaks of the benefits available to all who would place their faith in the risen Christ. John 14:19 talks of the benefit of freedom in our lives on earth because of the hope that he gives us. “Yet a little while and the world will see me no more, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.” John 5:24 talks about the security we have in knowing that the penalty for our sin has been paid. “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes on him who sent me, has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” His resurrection was the first step toward our home in heaven. Job 19:25 says, “For I know that my redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth.” Jesus is not only with us through every circumstance in life, he assures us that our hope for eternal life is sure. I Peter 1:3 says, “According to his great mercy he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” God, in his mercy made a way for us to have a relationship with him. Jesus resurrection proved that death has no control over God, and that his salvation is sure.

May those of us who know the risen Savior, be faithful to live our lives each day, just as those who experienced the reality of the resurrection many years ago. Nothing, not even death and the grave, have any power over us because Jesus is Alive. Amen!
