The Easter season is about the reality of death, and the reality and truth of what was accomplished by Jesus death burial and resurrection to overcome death. It is about the promises of God for a new earth, a new life, and a home in heaven. It is about the final victory that is promised to all who believe in Jesus. It is about the only hope that could ever comfort a grieving mother and father who have lost a child, or a person, of any age, who’s mother or father had died suddenly of an illness. It is about a “glorious day” that awaits all who believe and have received Christ’s victory over death. The dictionary says that resurrection is, “…a rising from the dead or coming back to life.” The dispute over whether or not Jesus actually rose from the dead began the very day He did so. Here in the 21st Century many people in the world still would dispute that this actually happened as the Bible said it did. The world sees the resurrection as an event from the past which is part of a religious belief system, something that “might” have happened or “could” have happened. But in contrast, as believers, we know that the account of resurrection in the Bible did happen. We know that the first Easter Sunday was a glorious day of victory and miracles, and because of it today, all people have the choice to either believe or disbelieve. For the person who places their faith in Christ, and believes, the resurrection of Christ is their hope. By placing their faith in Jesus, they have come to the amazing conclusion that through His resurrection the hope of everlasting life is theirs to have, a gift given freely by God through His Son Jesus Christ.
One of the new Christian songs being sung throughout the Christian community today is called “Resurrection Power” by Christian songwriter, Chris Tomlin. It speaks of the freedom we have as believers because of what was accomplished through the resurrection of Jesus
You called me from the grave by name. You called me out of all my shame.
I see the old has passed away, The new has come!
Now I have resurrection power, Living on the inside Jesus, You have given us freedom No longer bound by sin and darkness. Living in the light of Your goodness. You have given us freedom
That I’m dressed in Your royalty, Your Holy Spirit lives in me And I see my past has been redeemed, The new has come!
Now I have resurrection power, Living on the inside, Jesus, You have given us freedom I’m no longer bound by sin and darkness, Living in the light of Your goodness You have given us freedom, Freedom, You have given us freedom You have given us freedom, my chains are gone, Freedom, You have given us freedom You have given us freedom, hallelujah!
For those of us who have received the salvation that Jesus paid for by His death and resurrection, we know that we have this freedom from sin. We are confident that we are not bound by our sin nature, and in Christ we not only have forgiveness, we have a the hope of eternal life in heaven with Him.
I don’t know what you are going through right now in your life, but I can assure you that because of the resurrection of Jesus Christ the victory has already been won. There is nothing you are facing right now that can defeat you if you by faith surrender it to Jesus. Jesus said in John 11:25-26, “…I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying; and anyone who lives and believes in me will never die….” For those who have never trusted Christ, we have an urgent mission to bring them the glorious truth of the Easter story. It is the message of the Gospel that can bring to them this saving knowledge, because of what Jesus has done for them through His death, burial and resurrection. What about you? Is it well with your soul? Do you have “resurrection power” in your life? Are you looking forward to that day when Jesus returns? If you haven’t done so, trust in Jesus today by accepting Him as the only way that can give you “resurrection power.” HALLELUJAH!!
